Hello, my name is Andrew, I’m an applied physiologist and functional fitness coach. An applied physiologist is a professional who studies how the body responds to challenges of all kinds, from a hard sprint workout or a dunk in a cold lake, to better understand how to make stronger and more resilient humans. Functional fitness coaching is the application of physiology. Through the coaching process, we create a plan through fitness training to make you physiologically capable of handling whatever challenges you are pursuing. Your challenge may be getting up the stairs without having to pause and catch your breath, it could or finishing a bike ride without bonking.
What is my story? As a pre-teen, I had been active with classes at the YMCA. However, I preferred computer games and sugary cereal over the gym and veggies (still must try). My fitness journey began in my teens, with weight training class in high school and lap swimming with my dad at the YMCA. I went on to compete on the high school swimming team, wrestling team, cross-country team, and track and field team. The process of hard work in training and the cathartic release that followed drove me from session to session. However, in college when slews of overuse injuries and the pursuit of the beach body got old, I got into functional fitness and bicycle racing.
Now, with a master’s degree in Integrative Human Physiology and bachelor’s degrees in psychology and clinical Physiology, along with specialized certifications, I strive to be the best functional fitness coach I can be. My insatiable curiosity and desire to improve as a coach drive me to better serve my clients and athletes. Great training is client focused, which begins by meeting each individual where they’re at. Constantly learning about my clients to better tailor training plans around their goals and needs is essential. A client should not be expected to build their life around the plan. The plan should be built around the client! I look forward to working with you wherever you are in your fitness journey!
